What 43 iPhone price pages tell you about the Nigerian market
Publishing every model on the same method makes patterns visible that a single price page cannot show. Four of them are worth your attention before you buy anything.
1. New stock disappears almost exactly five years after launch
| Release year | Listings | Advertised new | Advertised used | Used share |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,952 | 1,383 | 569 | 29% |
| 2024 | 2,288 | 971 | 1,317 | 58% |
| 2023 | 1,899 | 693 | 1,206 | 64% |
| 2022 | 2,758 | 760 | 1,998 | 72% |
| 2021 | 2,492 | 426 | 2,066 | 83% |
| 2020 | 3,126 | 373 | 2,753 | 88% |
| 2019 | 1,627 | 209 | 1,418 | 87% |
| 2018 | 637 | 117 | 520 | 82% |
| 2017 | 552 | 18 | 534 | 97% |
| 2016 | 376 | 13 | 363 | 97% |
| 2015 | 141 | 1 | 140 | 99% |
| 2014 | 42 | 1 | 41 | 98% |
The used share climbs steadily with age and then hardens. Once a generation passes roughly 85% used, anything still advertised as brand new is realistically refurbished or repackaged stock, and it should be priced and inspected as used no matter what the listing says.
2. A new base model often costs less than a used Pro
| Buy this new | Price | Instead of this used | Price | You save |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 new | ₦1,400,000 | iPhone 17 Pro Max used | ₦1,650,000 | ₦250,000 |
| iPhone 17 new | ₦1,400,000 | iPhone 17 Pro used | ₦1,500,000 | ₦100,000 |
| iPhone 16 Plus new | ₦1,080,000 | iPhone 16 Pro Max used | ₦1,150,000 | ₦70,000 |
| iPhone 16 new | ₦935,000 | iPhone 16 Pro Max used | ₦1,150,000 | ₦215,000 |
| iPhone 16 new | ₦935,000 | iPhone 16 Pro used | ₦980,000 | ₦45,000 |
| iPhone 15 new | ₦655,000 | iPhone 15 Pro Max used | ₦860,000 | ₦205,000 |
Warranty, an untouched battery and no ownership history, for less money than someone else’s phone. This is the most reliable arbitrage in the Nigerian iPhone market and almost no price page publishes it.
3. Locked units sit 32% to 40% below genuine unlocked stock
A price that looks like a bargain usually is not. Across the listings we track, iCloud-locked and carrier-locked units are discounted by roughly a third. If a quote is a third under the typical figure on one of our pages, assume that is why until the seller proves otherwise. Our guide to iCloud locked phones in Nigeria explains what can and cannot be undone.
4. Listing depth decides how much you can negotiate
The deepest markets right now are iPhone 14 Pro Max (1,213 listings), iPhone 12 Pro Max (1,166 listings), iPhone 13 (1,122 listings), iPhone 12 (1,006 listings), iPhone 16 (869 listings). The thinnest are iPhone 6 Plus (13), iPhone 6 (29), iPhone 17e (30), iPhone 13 mini (43), iPhone 16e (46). On a deep model you are negotiating inside a real market and you can walk away. On a thin one you are negotiating with one seller, and the price is whatever they decide it is.
Before you buy
Five guides that cover the parts of a Nigerian phone purchase a price alone cannot: what UK-used actually means, iCloud locked phones, how to spot a fake, where to buy safely, and how phone swap pricing works. If you want to understand why these numbers move month to month, start with the naira and phone prices.
