Display

The iPhone 13 features a 6.1″ Super Retinal XDR OLED display with 1170×2532 pixels and an 86% screen-to-body ratio. Since the display specs are similar to the iPhone 12, it’s no surprise that it shares the same 460 pixels per inch, which isn’t bad for a high-end device in 2023.

The Ceramic Shield glass-protected display gets plenty bright, reaching 800 nits regular peak brightness and 1200 with HDR content. With haptic touch and HDR10, you’ll struggle to find a better display on any smartphone.

Processor

This device uses the Apple A15 Bionic, which remains one of the fastest chips in any phone. The fact that Apple uses the A15 Bionic in its iPhone 14 lineup is a testament to its speed. Also, Apple complements the six-core CPU with an in-house quad-core GPU that makes the iPhone a beast for gaming.

Battery

Apple bumped up the battery on the base device in the iPhone 13 lineup, offering it a whopping 3240 mAh, up from 2815 mAh on the iPhone 12. While the figure seems low compared to Android phones, it’s more than you’ll need in an iPhone, as the battery is good enough to last you an entire day on medium usage. In short, you don’t need a power bank if you’re buying an iPhone 14.

Cameras

The iPhone 13 features an award-winning camera setup that’s only inferior to pro iPhones and Ultra S-series Samsung smartphones. It has a dual camera setup on the back, including a 12 MP primary camera with f/1.6 aperture and another 12 MP ultrawide sensor with f2.4. While the former handles regular shots, the latter allows wide shooting, up to 120°.

Thanks to the two sensors, the iPhone 13 can shoot up to 4k at 60fps and 1080p slo-mo. The 12 MP selfie camera is also great for FaceTime and 4k video, completing what’s probably the best camera setup on a smartphone. Unfortunately, there’s no telephoto camera on the back, so say goodbye to optical zoom.

RAM/Internal Storage

The iPhone 13 keeps the same 4GB of RAM as the iPhone XS because it works well enough to keep the experience smooth and lag-free. While Android smartphones are getting up to 12GB of RAM already, iPhones still work decently with a third of that figure, with the latest iPhone 14 lineup featuring the same amount of RAM.

You may want to save up for the pro models of the iPhone 13 for future-proofing, as they feature 6GB of RAM.

Water-Resistance

The iPhone 13 is one of the most water-resistant phones on the market, as it promises to survive in up to 6m of water for 30 minutes, earning it an IP68 certification. It is also one of the few phones I’ll recommend anyone to take swimming, as there’s a low chance you’re buying a renewed iPhone 13.

Operating System

The iPhone 13 comes with iOS 15, but you can already update it to Apple’s latest and greatest, iOS 16. Also, there’s no indication that Apple would discontinue updates on the device anytime soon, given that the iPhone 8 from 2017 still receives OS updates. You can expect updates until 2026, at least, but it will likely be longer.

Price

The iPhone 13 remains one of the most expensive iPhones for a simple reason: it’s also one of the best. Anyone buying the iPhone 13 is buying one of the best displays on the market, a cutting-edge processor that remains unmatched by most Android-equivalent offerings, and four more years of updates. For those reasons, it’s worth the prices quoted above.

These phones need full performance under no throttling. The iPhone 12 throttled too much for my liking but this one they said would be better. Would like to see the avg fps on genshin impact since the snapdragon 888 and 888 plus beat the a14 in avg fps being more steady and throttled a little less. I disagree on the iPhone 12 comment I think the camera and battery is a big upgrade over the 12 as far as the processor I don’t think you will see much difference don’t get me wrong if you don’t have the budget the 12 will still hold up but that 13 is so much better – Bamaboy Burns
