   Verify it through Carlcare before you pay. Carlcare is TRANSSION’s own service arm and it runs authorised centres in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Ibadan. Dial *#06# for the IMEI and check it in the Carlcare app or at a walk-in centre. A genuine Infinix returns a matching model and a warranty status. A clone returns nothing, and clones of this brand are the single most common complaint we hear from Nigerian buyers.

   Check the chipset against the box, not the settings screen. Cloned handsets are reflashed to report whatever the seller wants. Install a CPU identifier from the Play Store and compare what the silicon actually reports with the Infinix specification on this page. A mismatch on chipset, RAM or screen resolution means you are holding a copy.

   Google account lock. Settings, then Accounts. If the seller’s Google account is still signed in, the handset locks itself at the next factory reset and nobody can recover it. Make them remove the account in front of you, then reset the phone yourself before money changes hands.
