Display

The Samsung Galaxy A72’s display is one of the better you’ll find on any smartphone in 2021. It’s a 6.7” Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and up to 800 nits of brightness, according to Samsung’s lab measurements.

The display measures 2400 pixels wide and 1920 pixels long, which aren’t mediocre dimensions for a 6.7” display. You should expect some scratch and shatter resistance from the display, thanks to its Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. While the screen is excellent, it’s not surprising, as Samsung makes screens for almost everyone in the industry; it’s only natural that their phones have the best.

Processor

Samsung uses the Snapdragon 720G on the Galaxy A72, a slightly better processor than the 730G found on the A71 from the previous year. You shouldn’t notice any differences in regular day-to-day use, but you should gain around five extra frames per second in your favorite games, which is a win.

Battery

This device has a 5000 mAh cell, which is larger than the battery on most flagship Samsung phones. The reason is simple: Samsung is targeting this device in Nigeria and other developing countries without stable electricity. Nobody will buy the device without such a battery, considering its price. You can save money for a portable charger for something else, like the Galaxy Buds.

Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy A72 features a quad camera lineup, the same number of cameras as the A71. It uses a 64 MP primary shooter with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization. Also, the device features an 8 MP telephoto and a 12 MP ultrawide for zoom and wide shots, with the former supporting up to 3x optical zoom. 

The Samsung A72 features a 32 MP sensor on the front for selfies with f/2.2 aperture. Both the primary and selfie cameras can shoot up to 4k at 30fps, which is excellent for a midrange device. The 64 MP shooter should be able to do more, but Samsung deliberately limits it with software.

RAM/Internal Storage

The Samsung A72 comes in two RAM variants: 6GB and 8GB, which is impressive when you consider that even top-of-the-line iPhones don’t get that much memory. However, Android is so infamous for its terrible memory management that 8GB in a midrange smartphone seems fair.

Similarly, the phone comes in two storage variants: 128GB and 256GB. That leaves you with four possible RAM/storage configurations: 6/128GB, 8/128GB, 6/256GB, and 8/256GB. Any configuration should work fine since you can expand your storage with an SD card.

Water-Resistance

The device qualified for an IP67 water and dust resistance rating thanks to its ability to survive under 1m of water for up to 30 minutes without noticeable damage. However, note that the promise only stands for new buyers; if you’re buying a renewed or used A72, you should probably not put the water resistance to the test.

Operating System

While the Samsung Galaxy shipped with Android 11, it had received updates to Android 12 and 13, with an Android 14 update reportedly in the works. Some insiders rumor that Samsung is bringing Android 15 to the device, and while that doesn’t sound too outrageous, I wouldn’t get too excited. Either way, Android 13 should be good for the next few years.

Price

The Samsung Galaxy A72 sits somewhere between the S22 and the A12 in pricing, which is fair when considering its performance. While we’ve listed the prices for the A72 above, understand that the prices are closer to the S22 than the A12. So, you’ll be shelling out a healthy bit of money either way.

I feel like by this time, Most of the buyers have already bought the A52 since no matter what, in terms of price and value for money, A52 is more reasonable than A72. I think this phone is for the kind of people ( like me ) who wants a very good camera ( the x3 zoom is a big deal in this price range ), doesn’t play that much or doesn’t play heavy games so a high-end CPU is not necessary, wants overall a good battery durability and a very good screen. So a big battery, good photography phone, that right now has already lowered in cost so it is an absolute deal – Ronnie

I have both the A71 and A72…quite similar in many aspects except for the battery size,ingress protection for dust and water,refresh rate,physical appearance and feel,macro camera…A72 is an upgrade over the A71 on the aspects mentioned. – Richard Hankombo
