Samsung Galaxy A20 remains one of the best phones for budget-minded people; other than that, there are many skirmishes and tradeoffs that make this device lesser than the market standard. If you are on a lean budget in Nigeria, you can still opt for this device in 2023 as it is not too pricey, and its solid battery life fits into the reality of many Nigerians.

Samsung Galaxy A20 was launched in March 2019. It is built on the android operating system of Android 9.0 (Pie), which is upgradable to Android 11, One UI 3.1. The user interface could be more brilliant than desired by a more significant percentage of today’s market with high-driven tests and standards that want everything a device can do with all the possible brilliance a device can offer.

The Super AMOLED screen type on a 6.4-inch screen, which is a large-size screen, has some little shortcomings when you are watching movies. The imaging quality of the characters could be better and improved, which newer editions have fully covered.

The Exynos 7884 (14 nm) chipset only brings about a little system software responsiveness; other than that, it is manageable in its own right.

The dual camera with a specification of 13 MP, f/1.9, 28mm (wide), AF; 5 MP, f/2.2, 12mm (ultrawide) only supports shooting pictures at a not-too-great angle and cannot experience the excellent zooming ability in newer releases.

Another little disadvantage of the Samsung Galaxy A20 is the lack of water or dust-resistant technology to protect the phone from liquid immersion accidents.

Samsung Galaxy A20 Specifications

Features to look out for:

Its body is made of Glass front (Gorilla Glass 3), plastic back, and plastic frame to give it a great look and prevent scratches. However, plastic are materials vulnerable to scratches, so you should use a pouch to protect its body.

Its screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This is to ensure that it is protected from scratches and that the quality of the display is preserved.

It has a dimension of 158.4 x 74.7 x 7.8 mm (6.24 x 2.94 x 0.31 in) and a weight of 169 g (5.96 oz). This makes it a handy and lightweight device for use.

It is produced in Black, Deep Blue, Red, Coral Orange, and Gold. The following colors give it a rich and brilliant look.

It has two variants: a single SIM (Nano-SIM) or a Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by).

It has internal memory and RAM of 32GB–3GB RAM, which is no doubt too little a space in today’s market’s place. However, it is complemented by an external memory of microSDXC (dedicated slot) to improve the overall storage.

It is built on an OS of Android 9.0 (Pie), which is upgradable to Android 11, One UI 3.1, with a chipset of Exynos 7884 (14 nm). This means it is upgradeable and has received support, making it a relevant mobile device in 2023. The overall operation of the chipset is functional and responsive but has been ousted by newer releases in terms of process.

It has a CPU of Octa-core (2×1.6 GHz Cortex-A73 & 6×1.35 GHz Cortex-A53) and a GPU of Mali-G71 MP2. This is to support the operation of the system software and for quality graphics of the system.

In its own right, it has a quality camera with a specification of 13 MP, f/1.9, 28mm (wide), AF; 5 MP, f/2.2, 12mm (ultrawide). It only supported shooting pictures at just 12mm wide and a LED flash, panorama, and HDR, increasing the resolution at nighttime and dark places. It cannot zoom and take a picture with deeper depth like top-rated mobile devices.

Apart from the dual camera at the rear, a single selfie camera at the front 8 MP, f/2.0 enables one to take quality pictures and video at 1080p@30fps. The rear video quality is the same as that of the front; in a way, you have similar quality in whatever direction.

It is a loud speaker-enabled device with a 3.5mm head Jack to listen and dance to music. While this is not much of a big deal, it is still a vantage point that enables you to simultaneously charge and listen to music. A device that lacks this can only listen to music via an ear-pod; the newer market releases are gradually dropping this feature.

It has a battery Li-Po 4000 mAh, non-removable, which only enables charging with a 15W wired device. Moreover, the current market reality projects devices that will allow wired and wireless charging, which needs to be improved. However, we are asking too much for this device considering the price and that only a few machines had this feature back then.

The battery is solid, with an endurance rating that is far from average.

Samsung Galaxy A20 – user opinions and reviews

I bought the A20 unlocked at Best Buy in late 2019 (was my first new phone since my Galaxy S3 mini i got in earlier 2014) & storage was an issue for me but i kept using it til the 3G shutdown stuff happened, then i upgraded & use the A20 as a 2nd phone with a separate phone company than my new one. – Lilshywolfswag

I use the A20s for 2 years right now. It’s a really good budget phone for using it for 2 – 3 years. The battery on the A20s is a really good one! However, this phone has a lot of bugs while using it. It was quite frustrating for me in the beginning while using this phone. I’m now used to it. The front and back camera are literally garbage so don’t buy this phone is you like to take pictures because this phone is not the one for you. The phone comes also with 32 gb (or 64 gb idk). This is not enough for a normal user. My storage is already full and it is really slow. The only good thing about this phone is for me the long-lasting battery. – Melanie

I’ve been using the Samsung Galaxy A20 for 4-5 years now (before that I used the Samsung Galaxy J1 for 3 years), but I’m finally thinking of upgrading after having to do too many water damage/cracked screen repairs. I’ve also noticed that storage has reached a capacity on the A20 which prevents updates from being made and slows down the functionality performance of apps. The smartphone easily gets hot and demonstrates lagging. The battery life has also worsened; it doesn’t charge as fast or keep a long-lasting charge like it used to. And I can’t even find compatible phone cases sold in stores for the A20 anymore. In your opinion, would buying a Samsung Galaxy S22+ or Samsung Galaxy 21+ be a better upgrade after using an A20? – RAI

I have had the a-20 since October 2019 and to this day I am still enjoying this phone and will likely be with me during the summer time but may look for a larger display by the fall I think…. – Leon Ellis

I bought my A20 back in March of 2020 during the peak of the pandemic. Tbh, I still get a lot of use out of it even after upgrading to a new daily driver. I use it for streaming radio programs with TuneIn, the wide angle camera still comes in handy for landscape photography, and I can also emulate PS1 and PSP games on it. So it may not be a go-to for a new phone in 2023, but it’s good if you still have it from back in the day for other purposes. – Diggy22

I bought my a20 in January 2020. I love the display. I have received all the updates available for this device. It has slowed down substantially since new. But the biggest problem for me was storage space. The phone still works great but internal memory is 83% full now. So that prompted me to buy a new device. – Mr Man
