The Mediatek Helio G96, on the Infinix Hot 20S, is one of the best chips Infinix has ever put on a smartphone, and it’s nothing short of amazing. It handles regular tasks like photo and video recording like a champ and playing high-end mobile games without breaking a sweat. 

The Helio G96 is supported by a Mali-G57 MC2 graphics chip to enhance its gaming performance, matching it to the levels of other devices in its price range. 

Battery

The Infinix Hot 20S uses a 5000 mAh battery which appears to be the only size the company has for mobile devices. Since the phone uses a higher-resolution display and a faster processor than most phones from the same manufacturer, you should expect the battery to be slightly weaker. However, it lasts long enough that you’ll never need to buy a power bank when using your Hot 20S.

Cameras

The Hot 20S has a triple camera setup consisting of a large 50 MP sensor with f/1.6 aperture as the primary camera. There’s also a 2 MP camera on the back for depth and another 2 MP sensor for macro, making it capable of both macro and portrait bokeh.

On the front, there’s a single 8 MP camera with a dual LED flash capable of capturing 1080p video at 30fps. The rear camera peaks at 1440p at 30fps, which still isn’t decent enough to justify the amount Infinix asks for this smartphone.

RAM/Internal Storage

Unlike most phones on the Infinix lineup, the Infinix Hot 20S doesn’t have several variants that feature different RAM and internal storage sizes. Instead, there’s a single version of the phone with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage, which is more than enough for what the average Nigerian needs in a phone.

If you need more (it’s unlikely), there’s a dedicated MicroSD card slot for expandable storage, capable of handling several hundred gigabytes of SD card too.

Water-Resistance

While Infinix often markets the Infinix Hot 20S as a top-of-the-line product, it doesn’t have an IP rating, which has become very common on high-end devices. If you’re hoping to purchase a device that lets you take underwater photos, reconsider your options and keep saving.

Operating System

The Infinix Hot 20S ships with Infinix’s custom Android 12 skin, XOS 12. While the company didn’t confirm whether it will be bringing Android 13 to the Hot 20S, it most likely won’t, as Infinix isn’t exactly famous for providing updates for devices it markets to customers. If you’re a fan of OS updates on Android, buy Samsung or OnePlus.

Biometrics

This device has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner built right into the power button. Pressing the power button unlocks the device instantly, making it difficult to see the lock screen. If you want to see the beauty of your lock screen, try pressing it with your fingernails and not your thumb itself.

Price

The Infinix Hot 20S is relatively expensive compared to other offerings from the same manufacturer, and the extra cost is justified. With a high-res display, Helio G96 processor, and 8GB of RAM, you’ll hardly find a device that packs similar specs at the same price.
