iPhone 14 Specifications

The iPhone 14 is the baseline device in the lineup, featuring the worst specs, the smallest physical size, and the most basic cameras. It’s also the cheapest phone in the lineup, although it’s not relatively inexpensive; it only qualifies as that compared to other phones in the iPhone lineup.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the iPhone 14 specs.

Display

The iPhone 14 features a 6.1” Super Retina XDR OLED display with HDR10 and Dolby Vision. It gets reasonably bright with 800 nits peak brightness for regular content and 1200 for HDR.

The display is crisp, featuring a resolution of 1170×2532 pixels bringing it to around 460 pixels per inch. While it’s the same display as in the iPhone 13, it’s so good that Apple didn’t even bother changing it.

Processor

This model retains the same A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13 lineup, which is still very performant. If you prefer the latest and greatest, you’ll have to shell out a bit more for the pro models of the device that offer the newer Apple A16 Bionic chipset.

While the A16 is crazy fast, the A15 Bionic is no slouch either. It powers the pro iPhones from the preceding generation, quick enough to run every app or game on the App Store flawlessly.

Battery

The iPhone 14 uses a 3279 mAh battery, the largest ever in a base iPhone. While it looks tiny compared to what you’ll find in alternatives like the OnePlus 11, it’s good enough for the efficient A15 processor. Another interesting fact is that the iPhone 14 is good at winning battery life contests, coming ahead of Android smartphones with 5000 mAh cells.

RAM/Internal Storage

Apple bumped up the RAM on the base model iPhone from 4GB on the iPhone 13 to 6GB on the iPhone 14, marking a 2GB improvement. Compared to equivalent Android smartphones, the RAM looks tiny, but it keeps up with the Android alternatives in performance and multitasking.

On internal storage, however, the iPhone 14 is the same as the iPhone 13, as it only features 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB variants. You should consider buying the highest storage variant if you tend to store media on your phone, as the iPhone 14 lacks a MicroSD card slot.

Cameras

The iPhone 14 has a dual camera setup, featuring a 12 MP primary camera with an f/1.5 aperture and another 12 MP ultrawide camera with an f/2.4 aperture. It also has a 12 MP sensor on the front for wide selfies. All iPhone 14 cameras can shoot up to 4K at 60fps, while the rear cameras can all do 1080p slo-mo.

Water-Resistance

You can leave your iPhone 14 in a 6m deep swimming pool for up to 30 minutes with no effects, qualifying it for an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. We’ve also seen YouTubers replicate MagSafe charging underwater, but we don’t recommend that.

Operating System

The iPhone 14 has iOS 16 preinstalled, and there haven’t been any major OS updates since its release. We’re sure the device will receive the iOS 17 update later in the year, and Apple will keep updating it for five years, at least. Judging by Apple’s update history with phones, five years is conservative.

Price

Talking of prices, the iPhone 14 Pro is one of the most expensive phones you can buy in Nigeria, starting at a whopping NGN950,000 for the 256 GB variant, which is the only one available in most Nigerian stores.

Apple iPhone 14– user opinions and reviews

I’ve been on the SE3 for a few months. Still a good phone but I just want a bigger display. I think this will be a good upgrade. The 13 is $100 cheaper so I might just get that one – Oscar Ramirez

We have underestimated Apple’s level of “incremental” upgrade at this point. Seems like the vanilla iPhone 15 will also be the same device again – G Four Gadget

Tbh it’s probably a good phone, useless if you already have the iphone 13, but for people with older phones maybe 12, most likely 11, and everything under, 100% worth it. – Just a turtle

The 14 should of gotten at least a 90hz screen. I’m fine with pro models being the only ones with 120hz as long as the base models get at least 90hz. – DarkHaven

Maybe not great so much coming from 13 but coming From XR it’s an outstanding purchase. I got mine today. I love it! – Scott D

This is my first ever iOS phone. Upgraded from Oppo A9 2020 to iP14, i really enjoying the features & functions. It is lighter compared to my wife’s iP14 Pro. The 5G also performed well. I really love it😁 – Iejoy

Conclusion

The latest iPhones are so expensive that they may be some of the costliest phones in Nigeria. They come in different variants: the base, plus, pro, and pro max versions, with each one being a bit more expensive than the other. This article shows the price of the latest iPhones in Nigeria by their internal storage sizes and where you can get them.
